W.E.B. DuBois was an extremely intelligent man. He spoke of many issues within society as it pertains to race, subjects of which pre-modern sociologists dis not research, seeing as how it stems from explaining behavior during the industrial revolution in Europe.

In DuBois book, the Souls of Black Folk, he speaks of the ‘veil’ that African-Americans wear in the world. The double consciousness, who they are stereotyped to be, who they have to be if in contrast, while still being true to themselves.

America, as it has never been too welcoming to Black people, has forced millions of minorities to find outlets as a way of coping with society. Part of the veil is understanding who the world wants you to be while keeping yourself out of danger.

To be an artist for a living is to create art from your heart but still making a living. To be a black artists is to be hired for specific gigs, to draw only black people, or to make their staff look more diverse.

I am an artist, I live in America, and I am black. These are my biases.
